Our History
Roy Allen Green saw at a young age that there was a need for a funeral home in Appalachia. His father owned a general store where caskets were sold and he would deliver those caskets to the home of the deceased in preparation for burial. Roy went to Cincinnati College of Mortuary College and graduated in 1929. Upon his return, Roy planned to open his own funeral home. In January 1931 he got his opportunity and the funeral home, which bears his name was born.
Roy ran his business out the Appalachia Hardware Building from 1931 until 1947 when the funeral home was relocated to its current location on Kilbourne Ave. In 1960 Roy's son, Sam Green followed in his father's footsteps and graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Sam dedicated his life to the community of Appalachia and worked at Green's Funeral Home until 2020. Eddie Green joined the family business as a licensed funeral director in 1971 and also has continually worked in Appalachia since then. Today, Sam Green's son, Sammy Green Jr. runs daily operations of the funeral home alongside his son Lee Green.
