Appalachia, Virginia Robert Lynn Caldwell, 79, of Appalachia passed away peacefully, after a long illness on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. He was born in Roda, Virginia on April 6, 1938. He served in the United States Navy from 1958-1961. He retired from Westmoreland Coal Company and was a former scrub tech at the Wise Regional Hospital. He was a member of the Appalachia Rescue Squad and attended the East Stone Gap Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Watson Caldwell; parents, Garland and Ella Caldwell; twin brother, Donald Caldwell; sister, Shirley Davidson and brother-in-law, Emory Davidson. He is survived by his children, Cathy Vernon and husband Terry, Mike Caldwell, and Robyn Gilliam and husband Bob, all of Big Stone Gap, VA; brother, Wendell Caldwell and wife Becky; grandchildren, Matthew Caldwell, Mason Caldwell, Kelsey Vernon, Tyler Vernon, Heather Gilliam, Robbie Gilliam, all of Big Stone Gap; Great-grandchildren, Abbigail Caldwell, Carson Hobbs. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia on Sunday, April 16, 2017. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. with Rev. David Rose officiating. Graveside services will be held at Glencoe Cemetery on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 3 pm. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Appalachia Fire and Rescue.
