Stonega, Virginia Josephine “Genese” Humbert, 91, went to be with Jesus on Friday, January 28, at Lonesome Pine Hospital. She was a member of the Big Stone Gap Church of God. Her love of music, singing and picking a guitar was her joy. She enjoyed singing with her sisters and friends at church. One of her much loved hobbies was playing bingo, driving and being on the “go” until her eyesight diminished. She loved her family, friends, and the Lord. Praying for people was something she loved to do. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Humbert; her parents, Jesse F and Mary N. Smith; brothers, Darmon M Smith, Coy “Winky” Smith, Jesse R. “Jr.” Smith, Jr., Carl E. Smith; sisters, Rachel Scott, Mary Ann Fritz, and Naomi Maggard; grandsons, James “Jimmy” R. Moore, and Joe Moore. She is survived by brothers, Denny R. “Bobbi” Smith, and Clyde E. Smith, both of Illinois; sons, William “Bob” R. (Lorraire) Moore, Joe D. Brown; daughters, Brenda (Roger) Smith, Sandra (Michael) Menarry; grandchildren, Kathy (Albert) Kopp, Kimberly “Kim” (Terry) Dedic, Nakina (Kenny) Boyd, Natisha (Shane) Sturgill, Michelle (Brian) Sturgill, Haley James, Blake James, Nicole James, several special great and great great grandchildren. Her much loved fur baby Angel. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to extend thanks to her brother, Denny “Bobbi” Smith and Niece Dianne Newkirk for their recent visit that lifted her spirit. Southwest Virginia Cancer Center, Heritage Hall Staff, Big Stone Gap, Lonesome Pine Hospital staff for the care they provided. The family would also like to thank Roy A. Green Funeral Home for their help during this time. She was looking forward to an upcoming visit from her great grandson Gavin (Kristen) and great great granddaughter, Karter Mae Sizemore, before his deployment to Israel. Josephine talked about him, loved him and prayed for him all the time. Services will be conducted for immediate family and close friends at 11 am Sunday, January 30, 2022, at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery Chapel officiated by Rev. Johnny Flanary.
