Appalachia, Virginia Elizabeth Florence Pannell went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, passing peaceably at home in her sleep. Florence was born on November 20, 1934 in Big Stone Gap, moved to Detroit, MI in 1955 and to Newark, DE in 1958, and returned home to Appalachia in 1989. Florence was a woman of faith, and loved bible study. She was also very creative. She loved to create floral arrangements and other crafts, bowling, and spending time with her loving family and friends. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Dedrick and Finnie Lawson of Big Stone Gap, and her nine brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years, James “Jim” Pannell; her son James “Rick” Pannell (Sally) of Vance, AL; daughter, Pamela Jane Ballard (Bill) of Walterboro, SC; four grandchildren, Billy Ballard (Brittani), Stephanie Ballard, Charlsie Pritchett (Ryan), and Katelyn Pannell; nine great-grandchildren, Dean, Destiney, Kaylee, Kaiden, Gracelynn, Maddux, Hagan, Cannon, and Braxley; many other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia VA. Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel at 2 p.m. with Pastor Don Estridge officiating. Special music will be provided by Billy Lawson. Procession will follow to American Legion Cemetery for the committal. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Roy A. Green Funeral Home is serving the Pannell family.
