Darrell Scott Hunnell

Norton, Virginia Darrell Scott Hunnell, age 24, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 28, 2018, at his home in Big Stone Gap, VA. Scott was born on November 14, 1993, at St. Mary's in Norton, VA, to his beautiful Mother Rhonda Hunnell and to his Father, Ricky Hunnell. He was a 2011 graduate from Appalachia High School but ended up transferring to a school called "Fry Hall" where he completed his education. Scott was a very loving, genuine, pure soul who has always had a heart of gold and loved his mommy to the end of the Earth. Some of Scott's special meanings of life was he loved our Lord and Savior, he was very compassionate to the ones around him and even if you treated him like he was nothing, at the end of the day, he was still there for you to lean on. He worked as Retail Specialist with a company called Acosta. He was very passionate about his job, mainly because him and his mother shared the same job, done the same task, and helped each other throughout their busy days. Some of Scotts moments was ones that you could freeze in. Nothing in this world could compare to his mommy though. No matter what Scott done, it was always for his mother. I have never seen a child care so much for their mother like Scott. He never took a break from texting her, always making sure that she was okay and did not need anything. That will be memories that she can forever hold onto for her to be able to gain her strength again. He loved his brother, Pat (Patrick) Hunnell of Big Stone Gap, VA. He was always there for Pat, as he will forever be. Him and Pat are not only brothers, they were best friends, and they had a bond that no one could tear apart. They both lived together for quite some time now and neither of them never failed to forget their sissy. Scott always protected his Sissy no matter what the circumstances were. He always made sure that she was okay, that she knew the most exciting moments of his life. His Sissy was his firecracker. He always would take her on car rides just so he could play her “Scott’s music”. Scott loved to spend time with Graeson (GMan) and their dog Reese, he plainly got his dog Reese just so Graeson could have a doggie. Graeson was one of the many blessings in Scotts life. He sure cherished his grandmother, Peggy too. He always did take his precious to the doctor anytime she needed to go, always made sure to take her to the grocery store or just text her to just make sure she was okay. He loved her more than his hat as he would say. He never did let his family go without letting them know how much he truly cares and loves him. Scott truly lived to the fullest through simple pleasures: chatting with friends and family, watching his two teams play football, The New England Patriots and Georgia Bulldogs, playing the Xbox or really any game device with his nephew, calling his mommy every other second just to talk, Scott was so full of life. Scott is survived by his Mother, Rhonda Hunnell of Norton VA; father, Ricky Hunnell of Richlands, VA; brother, Pat (Patrick) Hunnell of Big Stone Gap, VA; sister, Megan Hunnell, of Wise VA; Grandmother, Peggy Ryan, of Big Stone Gap, VA; nephew, Graeson (GMAN as Scott would say) Hunnell of Big Stone Gap, VA. Scott was also survived by many and many of friends, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many acquaintances. To add a special note at the end, he loved his honeybunny (Irene Maxwell, his Great Aunt) more than anything. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home from 5 P.M to 7 P.M. Funeral services will follow in the chapel with Pastor Reynolds officiating. Graveside services will be held at American Legion Cemetery at 11 A.M on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Patrick Hunnell, Print, Desmond Burney, Blake Mitchell, Austin Stidham, Jonathon Taylor, and Aaron Smith. The family is gathering after the graveside for Scott at Clear Creek Park in Norton, Va. Anyone who would like to attend and be there with us is more than welcome. God bless you all.
